The wet mile
Today I did something that I never thought I would or could do - I swam 1 mile in the ocean today. And I did it in just over 53 minutes. While that is not terribly fast, I am happy that I was able to touch the 1/2 mile buoy. It was somewhat overwhelming to know that you are 1/2 mile off shore, in the ocean. It was even more daunting knowing that I still had to go back.
The water was remarkably warm clear, with almost 40' of visibility and a surface temperature of 69°.
The leopard sharks were out in mass tonight. About 20 yards off shore, in about 8 feet of water, we counted more than a dozen swimming around on our way in from the 1/2 mile point. The sharks were close enough to touch but shy enough to not let us touch them.
